PLASTIC BAN BEGINNING

Updated: Jul 2, 2019

Over the weekend, we heard some amazing news!

Good old Tassie with be the first state in Australia to ban single use plastics!

By 2020, Tasmania will start their plastic ban on businesses that sell takeaway food. With plastics out of the equation, businesses will be reverting to compostable and biodegradable packaging for their takeaway food. Yay for the environment!

Nevertheless, there is still the concern that small businesses will be impacted on the most in comparison to larger companies such as Woolworths and McDonald's. We believe that the council can counter this by providing assistance towards small businesses that need the support to switch from plastic packaging to compostable packaging. After all, every change begins with small steps.
